Award Winning Business Entrepreneur and Philanthropist, Mental Health Advocate

Born and raised in Vancouver, BC Arthur Griffiths is an award-winning businessman and philanthropist.

His career began with him selling season ticket renewals over the phone for the NHL team, the Vancouver Canucks in the ‘70s. In 1981 he became the youngest Vice-Chairman and CEO in the NHL with the Canucks. During his tenure as NHL Governor, he was a driving catalyst in allowing the best players in the NHL to compete in the Olympic Games. This put the sport of ice hockey into the global spotlight like it had never been seen before and gave players the chance to “Go for Gold”!

In 1994, Griffiths became the youngest owner, Chairman/CEO and Governor in the NBA with the acquisition of the Vancouver Grizzlies Basketball team. In the same year he privately financed and built the $160 million dollar sports arena, GM Place (now Rogers Arena). It has been regarded as one of Canada’s finest arenas ever since.


In 1998, he successfully obtained the Canadian Olympic Committee’s endorsement to bid on Canada’s behalf for the right to host the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada.  As Chair of the Vancouver/Whistler 2010 Bid Society, he set the wheels in motion for the biggest sporting event ever held in BC’s history.

Following the success of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, he served as the Managing Director for Bosco Sport and Retail, an Olympic Partner. During his time in London, he opened four retail stores and managed the entire hospitality activation program across the city including hotels, VIP accommodation, transportation, ticketing, and staff accommodations.

Arthur’s love of philanthropy runs deep and has seldom been demonstrated better than his support of the creation of Canuck Place, a children’s hospice in Vancouver, Canada. Canuck place is the first free-standing hospice dedicated to children in North America. Even today while working as a business consultant with offices in London and Vancouver, he still chooses to serve as Chairman of the Canuck Alumni Foundation, a 52-year-old charity supporting Canuck Place Hospice, Boys and Girls Club, Canuck Autism Network, Rick Hansen Foundation, Canadians Men’s Health Foundation.

Arthur Griffiths has been a Jack Diamond Award Recipient:  The Jack Diamond Sports Personality of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has consistently demonstrated a competitive and cooperative spirit, who has excelled in the field of sport, and who has made a positive contribution to our community.

In 2016, he was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame as the recipient of the W.A.C Bennett Award, an award given “to an individual who has made a significant, unique and lasting contribution to sport in the Province of British Columbia.” In the same year, he was also the recipient of the Jake Milford Award, a yearly award given by the Vancouver Canucks and Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation.

He received an Honorary Doctor of Law from Capilano University

Arthur is married spends his time between London, England and Vancouver, BC with his wife, 5 children and 6 grandchildren.
